Art
Intent
At The Oaks Primary School and Nursery, we believe that art stimulates creativity and imagination.
Our art curriculum encourages, inspires and challenges children, equipping them with the core knowledge and skills to create their own works of art. It enables children of all abilities to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and using different materials and processes.
As the children progress through the school, they will develop a love of the arts and the confidence to experiment, using a wide range of materials.
The children will be encouraged to think critically and reflect on their art pieces and how art and design shapes our history and contributes to our shared culture.
How is this subject taught?
Three units of art are covered across the year. These include drawing, painting and sculpture. Each unit allows children to explore a range of skills, media and equipment building up to a final outcome.
Assessment
Art is assessed each term. Teachers identify who is exceeding expectations and children who are not meeting the expected standard. Teachers will be mindful of any significant groups who are not making progress and ensure they keep a close on how to support them the following term.
