RE
Intent
At The Oaks Primary School and Nursery, our RE curriculum is designed to engage learners through promoting spiritual, moral, cultural and personal understanding of the major religions of our world. Our curriculum aims to nurture awareness of diversity in our community and the wider world.
We are encouraging children to develop an understanding of their own and others’ worldviews which underpins the growth of empathy and respect. Appreciating that all see the world through the lens that has been formed by our experiences, upbringing, culture etc and that this influences our decision-making and our way of seeing the world is so valuable.
How is this subject taught?
At The Oaks, we use the Jigsaw RE programme to teach RE. The rationale and philosophy underpinning Jigsaw resources is a mindfulness philosophy and practice.
Jigsaw RE is divided into 4 age-bands:
Ages 3-5 Ages 5-7 Ages 7-9 Ages 9-12
Each age-band consists of enquiries on:
-
Christianity (enquiries for every year group)
-
Buddhism
-
Humanism
-
Islam
-
Judaism
-
Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism)
-
Sikhi
Assessment
RE is assessed each term, after each unit. Teachers identify who is exceeding expectations and children who are not meeting the expected standard. Teachers will be mindful of any significant groups who are not making progress and ensure they keep a close on how to support them the following term.
