Intent

At The Oaks Primary School and Nursery, we want to equip our children to use digital technology to enrich their curiosity and creativity that will enable them to become active participants in the ever-growing digital world.  It is important to us that the children understand how to use ever-changing technology to express themselves, as tools for learning and equip them for life within the 21st century classroom and wider world.

Every child will have the opportunity to explore, connect and embrace the  technology available to them and equip them for the next stage in their education. Every child will understand the significance of computing in everyday life and reach their full potential in an ever-changing digital world.

How is this subject taught?

We use the Teach Computing curriculum to meet the needs of the school.  It follows an enquiry based approach with practical tasks. Although computing skills are taught discreetly, digital literacy is also applied within other subject areas, such as maths, English, science, history and geography and modern foreign languages.

Assessment

Computing is assessed each term.  Teachers identify who is exceeding expectations and children who are not meeting the expected standard.  Teachers will be mindful of any significant groups who are not making progress and ensure they keep a close on how to support them the following term.
