Modern Foreign Language
Intent
During their time in Key Stage 2 at The Oaks Primary School, all pupils will have the opportunity to learn to speak, read, write and understand French. Our scheme of work will provide our children with ‘relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious’ courage, allowing them to reach their true potential.
Pupils will apply their knowledge in a variety of contexts, laying down solid foundations for future language learning. Our intent is that all pupils will develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages and enjoy learning a new language.
By learning an alternative language, they will have the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity, develop a deeper understanding of different cultures and have the courage to speak the language in different settings.
How is this subject taught?
At The Oaks, French is taught by using the website Language Angels. It is a carefully planned scheme which includes native audios to support the children and staff with pronunciation.
Assessment
Language Angels has built-in assessment with data tracking to allow for teachers to identify who is exceeding expectations and children who are not meeting the expected standard. Teachers will be mindful of any significant groups who are not making progress and ensure they keep a close on how to support them the following term.
