Intent

At The Oaks Primary School and Nursery, we feel that our music curriculum inspires creativity and self-expression for our children, helping them to feel part of a community.  Our curriculum provides opportunities for all children to create, play, perform and enjoy music.

We also have a KS1 and KS2 weekly singing assembly, where the children enjoy singing a range of popular songs, with a larger crowd.

How is this subject taught?

At The Oaks, music is taught and adapted using the Charanga programme to meet the needs of our school.  Within each unit, lessons follow a structure which encourages children to reflect on different musical genre and form their own opinions.

Assessment

Music is assessed each term.  Teachers identify who is exceeding expectations and children who are not meeting the expected standard.  Teachers will be mindful of any significant groups who are not making progress and ensure they keep a close on how to support them the following term.
